RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
Our plant breeding activities are based on world-wide market demands for vegetable trade. The requirements of growers and consumers determine the varieties and characteristics of our hybrid seeds.
The strength of Tropica’s research derives from its fast track programs that can deliver tailor made products. With breeding and trial stations located in key agro-climatic regions across the world, our breeders strive to develop products suitable for global markets. Apart from conventional breeding and pathology screening techniques, modern molecular tools (Marker Assisted Breeding) are extensively used in developing competitive products with strong commercial value. A strong plant pathology program supports development of products with multiple disease resistances, to sustain hurdles in agricultural production.
When developing new varieties, our breeders place importance in combining traits to provide value added seeds. Our hybrids are carefully evaluated by our product development teams in various locations under real-time growing conditions in different agro-climatic zones in India and abroad during several seasons to access product suitability prior to release into trade channel.
Research programs at Tropica focus on tomato, eggplant, hot peppers, sweet peppers, watermelon, melon, cucumber, squash, pumpkin, okra, gourds and sweet corn. Each of the programs covers various segments providing a broad spectrum of products for global markets.
